Formed in 1894 some 128 years ago as an institution the club is still going strong and thriving due to the dedicated members and responsible management.At that time Queen Victoria was the monarch and William Gladstone the prime minister.some of the noteable memories of that time was Blackpool Tower opened as did Tower Bridge and the Manchester ship canal,the first moving picture was shown in a theatre (a man sneezing)... amazing...The first football derby between Liverpool and Everton was played. It is difficult to imagine that the streets were lit with gas lamps and common transport was horse and cart and the occasional vehicle pumping out masses of CO2..cough...cough and not forgetting every house had coal fires for heat creating smog (for the younger people google it).Although most of the info up until the 60s has been lost the club survived 2 world wars and we still have a commemorative plaque remembering the members who lost their lives in the conflicts.During the 60s,70s and 80s the club thrived as did most of the social clubs,however the popularity declined in the next two decades with many of them closing down.Our club however braved the storm and came through a very sticky patch to emerge into a thriving venue.Albeit a men only club ladies are welcomed on the many social occasions the club hosts.We have loads of facilities including 2 dartboards,3 snooker tables,2 pool tables,a recently refitted stage area,well stocked bar,4 tv screens one of them being 81inches, also sky sports,bt sports and with the ammount of TVs no arguements as to what to watch.Also we have now a virtual surround sound system with 8 quality speakers and providing non-stop music.... requests taken.The club is what it is clean,tidy with a well appointed smoking area with seating and covered,it also incorporates a barbecue area,weather permitting.Club draws include a Friday meat and spirit draw,Sunday lunchtime meat and spirit draw plus at 3 pm the Super Lotto draw.Our competant bar staff are the best you can find (at short notice) and are efficient,amicable and pleasant (ish),they are brilliant but beware.. .what you give you will get back...Membership for 12 months is an amazing....only...£15...Come and see what you get for 30p per week.
